The Wankel Engine
Probably one of the best examples of an engine that came close to replacing the Internal Combustion engine is the Wankel engine. Designed in Germany , it incorporates all 4-strokes of the Otto cycle into a single cycle. It was one of the few new designs that went into production. Wankel engines are still being manufactured and used today , notably by Mazda. The site is very well designed and laid out , contains a lot of information and has links , animations and other interesting features.
